7 Reasons Why Everyone is Hating on the Batman V Superman Trailer

batman v superman

1 It spoils the entire film

batman v superman still

If you haven’t seen trailer two for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and you don’t want the film spoiled for you, please do not watch it! The film is totally predictable now, very little is left to imagination. In fact, perhaps close out of this post now, that’s to save you from spoilers.

2 Lex Luther

batman v superman still

Jesse Eisenberg is a great actor, but is he really trying to do a Joker impersonation? Two Joker references in 10 seconds, in a film that doesn’t include the Joker, or maybe it does? Plus wasn’t Lex Luther hairless in the comics, here he is sporting a luscious lot of hair.

3 Doomsday

batman v superman still

Ok, so wasn’t this film supposed to be about a battle between Batman and Superman? Is the DC universe shooting itself in the foot by introducing Doomsday so soon into the picture? Plus, he doesn’t look very scary at all, just type Doomsday Meme into Google and you’ll know what I mean.

4 Lois Lane gets only 1 line

batman v superman still

If the trailer is anything to go by, it looks like the female characters are going to be poorly scripted.

5 Wonder Woman gets zero lines

batman v superman still

She basically saves Batman AND Superman from a Doomsday Blast, she deserves at least one line, don’t you think!?

6 Cheap CGI

batman v superman still

I’m just praying that most of the CGI is not complete, but why send out a trailer to the world with incomplete CGI, knowing that millions upon millions with be watching? Regardless it looks cheap, especially when Nolan already gave us the most practical and realistic Batman trilogy.

7 It’s not really that dark

batman v superman still

Dark is at least an M rating, but it looks like this DC instalment will be PG rated, so it’s really not that dark, in fact it feels like it’s going down the path of even, ‘family friendly’, a bit like that other super successful comic universe, what’s it called again?

Perhaps there is ONE reason why everyone is loving the new trailer, and that is Ben Affleck. I think he is going to be a good Batman, but the film surrounding his performance will more than likely fail him, or we could be completely wrong and it proves to be an epic film!

It’s Time to Get Curious About J.A Bayona’s ‘A Monster Calls’!

a monster calls still

Is it too soon to get excited about a film that is set to be released in October 2016? That’s when J.A Bayona’s, ‘A Monster Calls’ will be released, and already a teaser trailer has landed! Be sure to check it out below, it’s definitely got my curiosity aroused.

the monster calls still

This film is based on a book by the same name and by the author Patrick Ness. Has anyone read this? If so, do you think a movie adaption is a good idea, or should I search out the book and read it? Unfortunately I am not a big reader, I’m just going to say that I don’t have the time, but then I guess if I really wanted to read, I’d make to for it, right!?

The cast is very interesting, we have Liam Neeson, of which he is not seen in this trailer, just heard. It does look like he is going to be the ‘monster’, so I am assuming we will only hear Liam and not actually see him performing awkward stunts, such as in Taken 35. There is also a strong female representation with Felicity Jones and Sigourney Weaver, which is also exciting.

Additionally the cinematography looks promising, it seems like they are going for an artistic look, dark and borderline scary, scary good. Keen to hear your thoughts on this one! Curious or not?

It’s Time To ‘Just Keep Swimming’ as Pixar’s Finding Dory Trailer Lands!

finding dory poster

We’re just getting over how amazing Pixar’s Inside Out was, and we’re as keen as ever to see The Good Dinosaur, as if that wasn’t enough, the Finding Dory trailer just landed! This trailer is truly a teaser, since it discloses nothing we didn’t know before, but simply ‘wets’ our appetite for what is to come.

finding dory still

Let’s face it, when Finding Dory is released next July, it will have been 13 years since the release of Finding Nemo, that is one substantial gap. So the question mark is how will the film pick up? Will it assume that no time has elapsed? Are fish years different to human years? Pixar surprised with Toy Story 3 and how it dealt with the passing of time, will they be able to pull it off again?

finding dory still

This teaser puts Dory at the centre of the stage, it makes it clear that this film will be about her, but at the same time we have Nemo and his dad coming along for the ocean adventure. We’ve had schools of fish before, sharks before, seagulls and a host of other natural entities. What, NEW, can Pixar bring to the table? Perhaps they will go harder on the environmental issues this time? Will there be room for deep emotion, as much as Finding Nemo had? Regardless, this is exciting, but for now we can only do one thing, and that is to ‘just keep swimming’. Beach anyone?

It’s Time To Get Excited About Elstree 1976, In Preparation For The Force Awakens!

elstree 1976 poster

This documentary comes at just the right time, for us to not only get extra excited about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but also for some in-depth character study in preparation for it.

elstree 1976 still

Elstree Studios was the location where most of the original Star Wars was filmed and made. The ever so important cultural beast was shot in 1976, hence the name, Elstree 1976. FilmMaker Jon Spira has stated that he didn’t want to make just another ‘making-of’ documentary, but rather, his goal was to focus on the untold stories of the people that seemed to have small parts. This film focuses on ten individuals who were involved in the making of Star Wars, and tells us their story, and how their lives were changed due to the unforeseen success of the George Lucas film they were working on.

elstree 1976 still

It’s exciting to see a film that takes us to a place we haven’t been before, a film that tells us stories we haven’t heard before. I am not sure how popular this documentary will be, but from the trailer and from early reviews, I am sure it will get around. The project was completed via a KickStarter funding campaign, which is hopefully allowing for a wider distribution.

What is also exciting is that FIlmMaker Jon Spira also writes through this medium, namely WordPress, so be sure to check out his website here. Excited about Elstree 1976!?

Some interesting points, John Boyega (Finn) is wielding a lightsaber, so is this indicating that he is a Jedi? Noticeably there is no mention of Luke Skywalker and we still haven’t seen his full look, apart from his mechanical arm on R2D2. Regardless it looks amazing, and I most certainly hope that we are not disappointed with this one. It has the potential to be the start of something grand from cinema.

It’s Time To Get Excited About Russia’s Mafia or Not!?

mafia still

Have you ever heard of the card game called Mafia? You play it with a group of people, who get assigned specific roles, and the objective is to work out who the Mafia is. I’m sure there are numerous adaptions and variations to the game, house rules and so forth. But it looks like in Russia this game is so serious and significant that they’ve decided to make a massive movie about it! Who’s excited?

mafia still

Actually the idea for the game was created by a Russian guy by the name of Dimitri Davidoff, which started of as a psychology  experiment/study, and turned into a global phenomena. Twenty Eight years on, from the birth of the idea, we’re going to be presented with a movie adaption. Game to movie adaptions are not new, we had Need For Speed, Battleship, just to mention a couple and we can expect a few more in the coming years. This is a little different though, just watch the trailer and you’ll know what I mean.

mafia still

So it looks like they’ve gone to great lengths with this film, the environment looks legit and the production levels are up there. It looks like The Hunger Games, Tron and Final Destination all had a love child. There are snippets of plane crashes, sharks, yes sharks and crumbling platforms, it looks insane!

mafia still

I am not sure if we are supposed to take this seriously or not, but it seems to be a satirical piece, I could be way off track, but I hope it’s intended as humor, because I really am struggling to take this seriously, what about you? Excited or not?

It’s Time to Get Excited About The Coen Brother’s Hail, Caesar!!

hail, caeser trailer

This film could not come sooner for me, especially when Goerge Clooney is completing his silly-esque trilogy of performances for the Coen Brothers.  First there was O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Intolerably Cruelty and now we have Hail, Ceaser! to look forward to. Who is excited?

hail, caeser trailer

The cast ensemble is stellar to say the least, with Frances McDormand looking unrecognisable and Channing Tatum sporting his dancing abilities, perhaps with his clothes on this time round. Josh Brolin appears to be the lead, with Clooney serving as a strong source of comedy.

hail, caeser trailer hail, caeser trailer

What we’ve come to expect form the Coen’s is a great array of interesting and off beat characters, additionally we can assume that the story will take a dark comedic tone. With Inside Llewyn Davis, Millers Crossing and Barton Fink, the Coens have proved they can do period pieces and the costume design is always spot on.

hail, caeser trailer

The Hail, Caeser! trailer does reveal plot lines in the movie, so if you want to go in blind, perhaps hold of from checking this trailer out, but if you’re used to having trailers spoil films for you, go ahead and indulge! Hail, Caesar! is a film to be excited about!

I’ll leave you with this frame. What could it all mean?

It’s Time to Get Your Rally On With Suffragette!

suffragette posters

It’s great when films are able to bring attention to subjects that perhaps we do not freely talk about, but are subject lines that need to be discussed. The trailer for Suffragette shows us the struggle that women went through in Britain, in their attempt to fight for gender equality and the basic right to vote. Ready to get your rally on?

Suffragettes Real

The film is said to focus on the foot soldiers of this battle, as opposed to the leader of the movement, Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep). She is depicted as a mythical leader that always seems to be from afar. There is focus on the Carrie Mulligan character, she is the centre of the story. This choice made by the directors and the filmmakers, to focus on the everyday lay woman, is clever, and fingers crossed, beneficial for the overall outcome of this important film.

suffragette still suffragette still

Equality between the genders is a subject that spans time itself, not only should we discuss it but everyone should take it seriously and not brush it off as a non-important issue. It is great to see that this film will shed some more light on did happen during those training times. It appears that this film will be tense and emotional, so I suggest you have your tissues handy. Who is excited about Suffragette? How do Feminists feel about this film?

It’s Time to Get Excited About Sicario and Johann Johannsson’s Score!

sicario poster

With less than a month to go before, Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, hits cinemas, it really is time to get excited about this film! We have been graced with a visual soundtrack preview of Johann Johannsson’s score for this upcoming film, please check it out below. I can tell you right now, that the score is going to be profound, and possibly a serious contender for the coveted Best Original Score Oscar.

Denis Villeneuve has directed some powerful and moving works so far, Enemy comes to mind as being an intense mind bender and Incendies as an intriguing foreign film with a massive twist at the end. He is taking on the action genre with his upcoming film, Sicario, and it will be interesting how he manages to present action in his visually compelling style. In particular pay attention to the track preview of ‘Melancholia’, there is a serious depth of emotion to this track that it’s chilling!

sicario still

The cast looks solid, with Emily Blunt leading the way, and a grim looking Benicio Del Toro. Jon Bernthal is slowly making a name for himself after his rather great performance in the first couple of seasons of The Walking Dead. As a side point, who is enjoying the new TV series, Fear The Walking Dead? Anyway, Josh Brolin, sporting a goatee will add additional class to the already stellar cast.

Enjoy the visual soundtrack preview, and I sure hope it is enough to get you excited about Sicario!
